When Ryan went to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. last year, the gift shop had Dugway geode's for sale. So we looked it up and sure enough there is a place called Dugway Geode Beds. You have to go around the fenced perimeter of Dugway, since most civilians-like me and the kids-are not allowed to go through some of the check points. It took us about and 1 1/2 to get on dirt roads to get there. We think if we could through Dugway it would only be about 45 minutes. But it was a fun drive and we passed part of the Pony Express route. There is a post there with a stone building. We thought we would stop on our way back home. When we were almost to the Geode Beds, a SUV was pulled over to the side of the road with a shredded tire. They didn't have a spare so we told them where we were going-we were headed in the opposite direction than they were- and we would check to see if we had cell service there and try and get a hold of their relative in Lehi (about 2 1/2 hours away). I remembered thinking I am glad that is not us. So we went to the Beds and found a ton of partial geodes and 2 whole one that we are going to cut in half. We had a great time hiking around and trying to find "treasures". I had Lindee on my back in a backpack which had a little pouch on it and I think I carried more than half of the kids' favorite geodes out. But it was a fun time.

On our way back the SUV was still there. Someone had given the wife a ride to Lehi and they were hopping help was on the way. The people were geologist and where going to go out to the beds as well. But as we were making sure they were ok the guys says it looks like we might have a flat tire and sure enough we did. So Ryan changed it-but the spare didn't look too good, and he got to looking at another tire and it was starting to go flat. So we head for home and get about a mile from out house when the tire gets pretty low. But since we are so close we just go for it and stopped at the gas station and air it up. We called all of the tire places in Tooele but it was after 6:00 and they were all closed, so we had no choice but to see if it would go flat overnight. Of course it did, and of course it is Sunday and I have to teach sharing time. So Ryan gets a fix a flat and runs the van into Tooele for a whole new set of tires while I take the kids to church. It was a crazy weekend. We thought we were going to have a nice inexpensive outing with the family and end up getting 2 flat tires and getting a whole new set of tires!
